In practice

What the numbers do not show

One fellowship, five programs

A single visiting fellow typically gives one public lecture, joins one Lab session or heritage walk, records one conversation with the Studio, and leaves behind a collaboration that outlasts the visit. This is why we fund people rather than events.

The room is the point

Our audiences are not only students. A typical evening at the Commons brings together undergraduates, residents of the neighbourhood, working journalists, monks, designers, and people who simply walked in. Very few institutions in Bangkok put those people in one room on purpose.

Published, not just performed

Every lecture is recorded and published, and key texts are translated into Thai. The audience for an evening at the Commons is consistently several times larger online than in the room.
